Handicraft – replica of traditional life style

Handicraft means handmade. Any items categorized as handicrafts has history older than modern machine. Though some modern copy of handicraft items gets machinery touch, they have pure history back to traditional way of crafting.

Nepalese handicrafts are symbol of heritage, tradition, culture, ancient architecture, life style and many more. Handicrafts have inheritance of different religion, region, culture and ethnic communities. Though some of the handicraft items have less daily life relevancy and used only as souvenir during modern age, these all have deeply rooted with traditional life-style.

Handicrafts is one of the most identical items of Nepal. There are some specific types of handicrafts that represents Nepal in international arena. There are verities of handicrafts that can be used as souvenir from Nepal. As it is souvenir obviously can be used as items of decoration and display in home and offices. More than that there are Pashmina Shawl can be used in daily life. 

Nepalese handcraft remains as medium of transmission of historical values in varieties such as skills and techniques of social, economic, cultural and religious values are being transmitting from generations. Especially Newar communities from Kathmandu Valley – is also capital city of the country – are involved in handcraft sector in Nepal. Though, nowadays, handicraft industry is becoming profession and financial activity, those people are providing livelihood to tradition, culture and history of the land.

Around 42 types of Nepalese handicrafts are recorded. Some of them are world famous and other catch eyes ‘this also’. Metal crafts, Jewelry (Silver and Gold), Pashmina products, Wood crafts, Stone Carving, Paper products, Painting, Ethnic dolls, and some other are major handicraft items from Nepal.
